Metaphors 2

How does Shakespeare use language to convey his ideas about dreams in Act 1, Scene 4 of Romeo and Juliet?
Shakespeare conveys his dreams when Mercutio refers to Romeos dreams as idles of a children’s brain. This is saying that children are a product of a brain doing nothing. To Romeo, Mercutio is trying to say that his dreams about the party are wrong and they’re all false and unreliable.

  1. You’ve done a good job of explaining the message Shakespeare is trying to convey here – the next step is to make specific reference to the language feature that is being used to do this. In this case it’s personification. When you do this, you’ll then be able to explore further how this particular language effect further strengthens the point Mercutio is making – which now, knowing what you know, is even more poignant.

Have a go at working this in and the paragraph will be further improved.
